During the course of seeking to treat my husband’s epilepsy, copious amounts of brain scans accumulated. I found the advancing technology inspiring and gave us hope in the hardest times.

He obtained a responsive neurostimulator called the NeuroPace. It monitors and records his brain activity to document and even lessen the severity of seizure events. It was instrumental in his treatment. In this x-ray the inner parts of the device are visible, as are the electrodes that penetrate into his brain.

After reflecting on the electric nature of what’s between our ears, neon lights were the goal.

This is based on an MRI slice that went straight through my husband’s eyes. The small circles in the center are the location of the hippocampi. Only one is filled in, because he had the right hippocampus removed.
